Hepatitis B vaccine

Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the liver.

The Hepatitis B virus is carried in blood, semen and vaginal fluids. One way it can be transferred is through sexual intercourse with an infected person without a condom.

Hepatitis B vaccine

A vaccine that offers protection against Hepatitis B is  available to those who are at high risk of developing the infection.

This includes people originally from high-risk countries, people who inject drugs, and people who have unprotected sex with multiple sexual partners.

You are only eligible to have the Hepatitis B vaccination at Sandyford if you are at sexual risk of Hepatitis B.

Required dosage of Hepatitis B vaccination

Hepatitis B vaccine usually consists of three doses over at least six months.

We usually give Hepatitis B vaccine in a combined vaccination along with Hepatitis A.
