The legal definition of consent is ‘free agreement’. This means a "yes" has to be freely given - not if someone is drunk, asleep, anxious, intimidated etc.
Young people have told us they have very little information about consent and find it easier to ‘go with it’ in sexual situations than talk about what they do and don’t want.
Many young people are confused about what constitutes consent, e.g. silence equals consent, not saying’ no’ equals consent.
